As the first food manufacturer in Austria Mars introduced a new method of measuring and showing the effects of different order and distribution processes on CO2 emissions.

The programme, called Green Order, was developed by Mars together with logistics consultants Cap Gemini in The Netherlands, where it has been successfully used since 2009. In Austria it was introduced by Mars Austria together with Kühne + Nagel and Spedition Traussnig in April 2010.
It's the goal of the programme to lower CO2 emissions through improved co-ordination between all partners in the logistics chain. However Mars does not want to monopolise Green Order. On the contrary it is to be developed into a recognised standard for sustainable logistics, which all interested manufacturers, shippers and retailers can adopt.
