We also use fish for the production of petfood, and especially catfood. As the first global petfood manufacturer, Mars has committed itself to fully switch to fish from sustainable sources by the year 2020. Given the rapid decline of fish populations in the world's oceans, we have developed, together with the WWF, a sustainability programme to achieve the following goals by 2020:

• only use fish from 100% sustainable wildcatch or 100 % sustainable aquaculture
• replace all wildcatch fish and fish fillets by sustainably caught fish by-products or raw materials from aquaculture
• only use sustainable alternatives to saltwater fish

Until then we will introduce step-by-step, throughout Europe, products whose sustainability has been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). We already do not use highly endangered species, such as bigeye tuna or swordfish, which appear on the Red List of endangered species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).
